We continue on our path toward oatmeal raisin cookie love. On Monday, I introduced basically a chocolate chip cookie with some oats thrown in. Today, I’m giving you a cookie with oats and dried fruit – but this cookie definitely isn’t a chocolate chip cookie in disguise, like some oatmeal raisin cookies are. This is a whole different beast: the breakfast cookie.

Breakfast cookies. Are there any two more beautiful words in the English language? And don’t say ‘cellar door’. Donnie Darko isn’t that good of a movie. But anyway, breakfast cookies!

Now, it’s true that any cookie could be a breakfast cookie. I’ve eaten cookies for breakfast. Also lunch and dinner, although not all on the same day. Harry and I spent our last anniversary playing video games and eating girl scout cookies. Regardless, these cookies are actually a legitimate way to start your day. They have fiber (from the fruit, whole wheat flour, and oats), protein (from the peanut butter), potassium from the bananas, and chocolate just to sweeten the whole deal (also… antioxidants? or something). They’re substantial and satisfying. And they fill a completely different niche than a chocolate chip cookie does, so they won’t feel like an inferior substitute.

So go on. Start your day off with a cookie. You know you want to.
